Lintel Trust has a history of supporting the Disabled Persons Housing Service in Aberdeen. DPHS has close links with housing associations including Castlehill Housing Association, Sanctuary Housing, Blackwood Housing and Langstane Housing Association. We are delighted that we have been able to award a grant of £2,000 towards the Veterans Voice Project.

The transition from military and civil service to civilian life can be a daunting experience and for ex-servicemen and women who also have a disability, finding a suitable place to live can be even more challenging. For many, adapting to life as a civilian, while adjusting to life with a disability, can be very isolating without the additional stress of having to find a suitable place to live.

Veterans Voice recognises the additional challenges faced by disabled veterans and their families and is there to enable and empower clients to live full and independent lives. Project aims are:

  • Improved wellbeing through suitable care packages
  • Increased awareness of housing options
  • Reduction of social isolation for disabled veterans
  • Empowerment for veterans to make their own choices on housing needs
  • Reduction in figures for delayed discharge from hospital
  • Provision of accurate statistics to landlords to influence new build project decision making

Veterans Voice provides advice and advocacy services to disabled veterans of the Army, Navy, Airforce, Police, Fire Service and Merchant Navy. This includes home and hospital visits to identify needs, advice on home adaptations, housing applications, homeownership options and help accessing grant funding for c

This invaluable service also includes signposting to advice on fuel poverty, benefits available and income maximisation to improve the lives of ex-service personnel in the Aberdeen area.

DPHS has a long and well recognised history of providing an excellent service to clients. They were recently awarded the Queen’s Voluntary Service accolade, which is given to outstanding contributions made by organisations and charity groups in the third sector. Well done!!
